An Infinite Love in Stockholm

 

 

 Barbara Polla, Joakim Forsgren and Per Hüttner present an exhibition project in three-parts in collaboration with Konstnärshuset, Kl. 9 and Kulturhuset. Artistic guided tours form an integral part of the project and will take place on June 9 and 10 June. The walks take their inspiration from surgery and love. One of the most obvious and hushed up features of being a medical doctor, is the love for the other’s body. This love can transform the violence of the scalpel into healing care, just like the artist can transform the ugly, discarded and unwanted into something aesthetically pleasing that moves its audience’s emotions.

During the walk through central Stockholm, the visitor meets the artists, a doctor, a surgeon who reflect on art and surgery in poetic and sometimes provocative ways. Personal thought, experiences and stories are interwoven with the starting point in the exhibitions, from architecture and that manifests itself in the city. The project is a unique opportunity to meet art, the urban fabric and gain new perspective on how ontologies become visible through the unusual meeting between science and art.

Firefly Frequencies in Your Ears

 

Norrköping Air is proud to announce that Italian Radio “Firefly Frequencies” dedicate the first episode  of their series “An Archive of Dreams” to the project “Delta” that our members are working with. In Delta we develop performances for sleeping audiences. Neuroscientists, musicians and artists from multiple European countries together develop technology and content to enrich the nocturnal lives of dreamers and sleepers.

The show is entitled “The Sound of Sleep” and can be accessed any time on the Firefly Frequencies website. It also contains multiple tracks that Per Huttner has created based on the delta signals of Italian artist Emilio Fantin when he is in deep sleep. Delta waves are the most prominent brains for the sleeping brain and are not extensively present in the waking persons neural activity. Little is known about their function, but it is clear that delta activity during sleep is essential for human well-being.

Back in Cairo

Members of the Norrköping Air team travel to Cairo February 11 – March 2. They are undertaking research for the upcoming project “Local Role Models” which brings together artists from Sweden, Syria, Morocco and Egypt. Together they will reflect on how local heroes in the communities in the three countries can inspire new ideas of creativity in the arts and in activism. The residency in Egypt will help the organisers to get a clearer idea about how to work in the most efficient ways.

More Love

 

Norrköping Air and Vision Forum begin its international activities in 2021 in Geneva. An international group of artists, curators, psychologists and surgeons meet in Switzerland January 22-24. The group will work and make Covid friendly public presentations within the the framework of An Infinite Love in dialogue with the gallery Analix Forever. The project investigates one of the most obvious and hushed up features of being a medical doctor -  the love for the other’s body. Love to look at it, from outside, from inside, from everywhere, to picture it, to care for it, to clean it, to listen to it, to examine it, to palpate it, to cure it, to heal it, to open it, to penetrate it, to sew it up, to amputate it, to repair it, to massage it, to biopsy it, to dissect it, to analyse it, to describe it, to admire it, love for its functioning, its mysteries, love for its flesh, its fluids, pus, faeces, blood, bile, tears, sex and soul… all of it. LOVE.

Norrköping Air and Curatorial Mutiny are organising three workshops on how or bodily constitution influences our understanding of the world. Originally the plan was to make one, big workshop, but in these times we need to keep it more intimate. In the first, dancer and choreographer Carima Neusser leads a workshop where she and participants together examine and reflect on the human body’s inherent knowledge and how we can think about this in individual artistic practices. In the work the group together looks at these questions through different approaches taking inspiration from dance exercises, anthropological and philosophical texts as well as the Feldenkrais method.

During two days, a small group of artists from different fields, together investigate how the body can know.  Lunch, coffee and snacks are offered. In Bologna and Marzabotto

 

Norrköping Air and Vision Forum are creating performances for sleeping audiences in a new project called “Delta.” We are interested how art can become a part of enriching the third of our lives that we spend asleep. The starting point can be found in the fact that some people have very rich nocturnal lives, while others only experience sleep as a necessity without any intrinsic value. Those whose minds are active at night and are aware of it, dream of magical and fantastic places and develop inspiring stories. Others find sleep a profoundly sensual experience where bodily pleasures take another form. We ask ourselves where this difference comes from. Is it genetic or is it dependent on how we view sleep, how we relate to t? Can a changed outlook on sleep enrich our nocturnal lives? If so, how can art actively be a part of positively influencing such a perspective?

The project, in other words, changes how we understand sleep and the processes that take place in our bodies during the night. In order to do this in the best of ways, we are approaching the problem in two ways: Firstly, we collaborate with people who have alternative outlook on sleep – both in the arts, in the sciences and culturally (many non-western cultures see sleep very differently from us). Secondly, we develop special biofeedback technology so that the sleepers can actively influence the nocturnal artistic output themselves. In short, the nocturnal performances we propose are

December 11-13, 2020, Norrköping Air and Vision Forum are organising a workshop in Bologna and Marzabotto together with Italian artist Emilio Fantin. He has over the last decade developed wonderful artworks and creative working processes where he investigates how people can collectively investigate and experience dreams. Together with the Vision Forum team, we will test merge his ideas with our research on performances for sleeping people practically. Artists and cultural workers from Sweden, Italy and Switzerland will together work for three days with sleep and dreams in inspiring settings.

 

Norrköping Air members participates in “2084″ in Helsiniki. 2084 is an exhibition that takes place in the present and speculates on the role power will play in the future. We participate principally in the performance events that accompany the exhibition and that will be hosted in the gallery October 10 and 13.

The exhibition and events do not aim to provide answers but offers narratives on the various ways power is activated today and what could happen in the years to come. They draw inspiration from the book 1984 by George Orwell. The fictitious subject matter of the book was forward-thinking, and in many ways, it has become a reality; think of today’s use of surveillance cameras, algorithms and fake news. However, despite the dire tone of the story, notions of love and activism were also present as integral forms of power. From this foundation, the participating artists in 2084 explore power and the future through themes such as media control, social protest, as well as imagination and desire.

2084 is curated by Stockholm-based curator Anne Klontz.

At Teater Reflex, Stockholm

 

Due to the Covid-19 situation Norrköping Air has been able to prepare for upcoming public events at Teater Reflex in Stockholm. The theatre has had its doors mostly closed to its audiences. We are very grateful for this opportunity and hope that you will be able to see the outcome of our experimentation on their stage in November or December. More info soon.

Berlin and Dresden

 

Members of the Norrköping Air and Vision Forum teams are travelling to Berlin and Dresden to carry out research about baroque architecture, dance and visual art in September. It connects to our ongoing research on the baroque period and how it connects to our day and age. We are happy to see that this process that was started in 2018 is still generating momentum through collaborations in Finland, Switzerland and Germany. It is also rewarding to see it connecting to participants in such projects as Governing Bodies and Tomorrow’s Art Audiences. The project is becoming an umbrella for a whole array of explorations across geographic and disciplinary borders. More information will follow here as the baby baroque projects take shape over time.

Zürich Summer Investigations

 

 

An international team of artists from Baroque Architecture and Submission travel to Zürich June 30 – July 4 to investigate the potential of using VR-technology in a new version of the project. The group will work with neuroscientist and architect Isa Pasqualini. They will also meet representatives from Tanzhaus Zürich as well as other researchers in the field.

Microbes, Science and Art in Växjö

 

Norrköping Air is proud to announce a workshop incollaboration with Vision Forum on how the microbes in our body influence human identity and behaviour March 13-15. The work will be carried out at Italienska palatset in Växjö March 13-15, 2020. A public event will take place on Saturday March 14 (see program below.) The public event will include lectures, performances, a guided tour and a specially designed dinner by Mäm’s own star chef Erik Måneld.

During three days artists and theorists from theatre, dance, music and visual art will work together with researchers who have special knowledge and interests in the field. Collaborations include Chalmers Tekniska högskola in Gothenburg, Karolinska institutet and Prima Barn in Stockholm.

We meet at 16h at the entrance of Italienska palatset.

16.00 – Carola Uehlken – artist from Berlin performs a guided walk in and around the Italian Palace looking at the history of the building as well as crime and madness (locally and globally).
17.00 – Elias Arnér – Selenium, nitrate, nitric acid, red beetroot juice, microbes and health: a popular science talk.

Norrköping Air in Mexico City

 

Norrköping is proud to announce that we participate in the performance “diSEULTOS” with Alcibiades, Athenea and Ariadne Papacostas on February 2, 2020 at Roma 303 in Mexico City. The venue is a feminist centre for bodily practices. The performance is a collaboration between Swedish and Mexican artists from many different genres and involves music, dance, yoga practices and sculptures. Entrance is free and the program starts at 18.00. Welcome!

MKP in Brazil

 

Norrköping Air is proud to present a series of workshops and performances at SPET in Sao Paulo in Brazil organised by the pedagogical network MKP that we run with LiU and Vision Forum. The work is focuses on investigating the boundaries between sane behaviour and actions that break the boundaries of what is socially acceptable. We investigate the boundaries of desire and what can be learned by bringing together experiences and knowledge from contemporary art, dance, theatre and music.

After Sao Paulo the group will go to MT school of Theatre in Cuiabá. The events take place November 25-27. The work is focuses on investigating the relationship between contemporary performance practices and everyday actions. MKP draws

inspiration from the history of performance and key figures like John Cage and Yoko Ono and merge them with ideas from choreographer Susan Rethorst as well as MKP’s previous work with investigations of sites. We investigate the boundaries of desire and what can be learned by bringing together experiences and knowledge from contemporary art, dance, theatre and music. The events are supported by the Swedish Arts Council and Helge Ax:son Johnsons stiftelse.
